Privacy Policy
Aurora Security ("Aurora," "we," "our," or "the App") is a personal safety assistance tool. This Privacy Policy explains the information Aurora accesses or processes based on the features you enable and use, how it is used, who it is shared with, how long it is retained, and the choices available to you.
Aurora is designed for substantial on-device processing. When you enable and use emergency features, the system sends the corresponding information to the contacts you designate and the third-party delivery services required for those features. Read this Policy before enabling those features or adding trusted contacts.
1. Scope and Contact
This Policy applies to the mobile application provided by Aurora (the "Aurora App"), Aurora-operated alert-delivery infrastructure, and the Aurora website. Questions, privacy requests, or concerns can be sent to [email protected].
2. Information Aurora Accesses or Processes by Feature
We access or process the following information only when the corresponding feature, setting, or permission is enabled and used:
- Microphone input and event audio: Audio used for local monitoring, short event-related clips, and optional AI analysis or sharing features.
- Camera input: Rear-camera video with audio when you grant camera permission and enable video evidence.
- Location information: Current location, location links, and live-location points when location features are available and used.
- Contact and routing information: Phone numbers you enter, contact labels, and LINE, Telegram, or Aurora push binding and routing identifiers.
- Device and service identifiers: A user identifier, bind code, device label, push-registration token, and authentication or routing data needed to provide enabled delivery features.
- Safety-event information: Alert text, timestamps, delivery status, AI result text, local history records, incoming trusted-contact alerts, and links to shared location or video evidence.
- Settings and permissions: Your App preferences, enabled delivery channels, evidence settings, and permission state.
- Support communications: Information you choose to send to us by email.
Aurora does not read your device address book. Emergency contacts are the phone numbers you enter or the recipients you bind through LINE, Telegram, or Aurora push delivery.
3. Permissions and Their Purposes
- Microphone: Used to monitor for configured trigger conditions, capture short event audio, and perform on-device AI analysis when enabled. When video evidence is enabled and successfully recorded, microphone audio is also included in the video evidence.
- Camera: Used only when you grant camera permission and enable video evidence, to record up to 10 seconds of rear-camera video with audio during an emergency flow.
- Location: Used to add location context to alerts and, when available, provide live-location tracking for selected contacts.
- Phone Call and SMS: Used only if you enable those channels to place calls or send text alerts through your device.
- Notifications: Used for safety status, active monitoring, emergency countdowns, incoming trusted-contact alerts, and important App events.
After you revoke a permission or disable a required capability, the related parts that depend on it will not work.
4. Routine On-Device Processing
During normal monitoring, Aurora is designed to perform routine sound detection and available AI analysis on your device. Aurora does not continuously stream routine microphone audio to Aurora-operated servers. Your normal conversations and everyday surrounding sounds are not uploaded as part of routine monitoring.
This does not mean that no data ever leaves your device. If an emergency feature, audio sharing, live location, video evidence, or optional AI-improvement upload is enabled and used, Aurora prepares and attempts to send the information described in this Policy to the applicable recipients or infrastructure for that feature.
5. Emergency Alerts, Audio, Location, and Video Evidence
When an emergency flow starts, Aurora prepares and attempts to send the emergency information you select through the channels and features you have enabled. Depending on your settings, the information includes one or more of the following: alert text, a location or location link, live-location tracking, AI analysis results, a short emergency audio clip, and video evidence.
When an emergency alert is triggered and audio sharing for contacts is enabled in the App, Aurora prepares a crisis audio clip of up to 5 seconds and attempts to send it through Aurora's backend using an enabled channel such as LINE, Telegram, or Aurora push delivery.
Video evidence is recorded only when you grant camera and microphone permissions and choose to enable that feature. A successfully recorded video is up to 10 seconds long, uses the rear camera, and includes audio. If the video is successfully uploaded, Aurora creates an unlisted link and attempts to send it to selected contacts through enabled channels.
Live-location and video-evidence links are unlisted links. Anyone who receives a valid link can access its contents while it remains valid. Aurora intends to send links only to the contacts you select, but cannot prevent a recipient from copying or forwarding a link.
6. Optional AI-Improvement Audio Uploads
Aurora offers a separate optional setting for automatically triggered alarms. If you enable it, Aurora queues the 5-second alarm clip associated with an automatically triggered sound-detection event, together with limited technical metadata, and attempts to upload it when a network connection is available for model fine-tuning, training, testing, evaluation, and safety research.
This optional feature does not upload continuous monitoring audio or manual SOS audio. Uploaded emergency clips contain sound; if conversations or background sounds are present at the time of recording, that content will also be included in the clip and processed in accordance with the purposes, retention periods, and security measures described in this Policy. You can turn this setting off in the App; turning it off stops future uploads but does not automatically remove material already uploaded.
7. How We Use Information
We use information only as needed to operate and support the features you choose, including to:
- provide on-device safety monitoring, manual SOS, alert delivery, and configured contact channels;
- create and serve enabled live-location or video-evidence links;
- store local alert history and limited backend routing or session records;
- maintain security, troubleshoot failures, and respond to support requests; and
- where you separately enable it, improve future safety models using eligible trigger audio.
8. What We Share
Aurora does not sell personal data for money and does not use personal data for Aurora-targeted advertising. We share information only as needed to provide enabled features, including with:
- selected trusted contacts to deliver alerts, calls, SMS messages, location information, live-location or video links, AI summaries, or emergency audio clips;
- LINE, Telegram, and Firebase Cloud Messaging when you use those delivery channels;
- telecommunications providers when the App sends SMS messages or places calls through your device;
- mapping or location-link services when location links are generated or opened; and
- Aurora's cloud infrastructure to register device or contact bindings, relay delivery requests, create live-location or video-evidence sessions, store limited delivery audio, and store optional training clips.
Third parties and trusted contacts process information under their own terms, settings, and privacy practices. Aurora cannot control their actions after information has been transmitted to them.
9. What Is Stored
On your device: Depending on your settings and use, Aurora stores information associated with enabled features, including settings, phone numbers, contact-binding information, safety history, incoming alerts, local emergency audio, and locally retained video files or temporary upload copies.
On Aurora's backend: When you use a feature that requires Aurora's backend, the backend stores the limited information needed to provide that feature, including user identifiers, bind codes, device labels, push-registration identifiers, contact bindings, alert-delivery metadata, and session data needed for live location or video evidence.
Aurora's backend is not designed to store continuous microphone audio. When you enable optional AI-improvement uploads, it can store the eligible 5-second clip and limited related metadata.
10. Retention and Deletion
Local information remains on your device until you delete it, clear App data, reset applicable local settings, or uninstall the App. Removing local history does not revoke a live-location or video-evidence link that was already shared.
Live-location tracking runs only for the period shown on the shared page; location updates stop when that period ends or when the user stops tracking. The live-location link and related records expire 72 hours after the tracking period shown on the shared page ends and are then queued for cleanup. Video-evidence links expire no later than 72 hours after creation. Once a link expires, it can no longer be accessed normally; routine cleanup may mean that the underlying data is not physically deleted at that exact moment.
Emergency audio is stored temporarily only to provide alert delivery. An audio link expires 7 days after it is created, and the associated data is then deleted through routine cleanup. Contact-binding data is retained only while the binding remains active or as needed to provide alert-delivery features.
Optional AI-improvement clips and related metadata are retained for no longer than 24 months from the upload date and are deleted after that period expires. Before then, you may request deletion of original data that remains under Aurora's control; legal retention requirements may apply. To request review or deletion, contact [email protected].
Deletion requests cannot require Aurora to erase information held independently by a trusted contact, carrier, LINE, Telegram, Firebase, or another third party after it has been transmitted to them.
11. Your Choices and Requests
You may, subject to the App's available controls:
- enable or disable AI analysis, delivery channels, audio sharing, video evidence, and optional AI-improvement uploads;
- revoke permissions granted to the Aurora App through system settings;
- update or remove configured contacts and bindings;
- delete local data by clearing applicable App data or uninstalling the App; and
- contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy concerns.
To prevent unauthorized access to or deletion of your information, we reserve the right to request the verification information necessary to process your request. We retain limited information only as needed to comply with law, protect security, resolve disputes, or maintain essential service records.
12. Security
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect information handled by Aurora. However, no mobile device, network, cloud service, link, or transmission method is completely secure. You should protect your device, account bindings, and any emergency links from unauthorized access.
13. Children's Privacy
Aurora is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 must not use Aurora. Users who are 13 or older but under the age at which they may lawfully consent where they live may use Aurora only with a parent or legal guardian's authorization and supervision. Aurora does not currently provide a separate technical age-verification or guardian-verification flow. If you believe a child under 13 has used Aurora or provided personal information, contact us.
14. International Processing
When Aurora or a third-party service used by an enabled feature processes information outside your country of residence, your information is transferred and processed across borders. Privacy laws and levels of protection differ by country. When you use a feature that transmits information, the relevant information is processed by the recipients and service providers described in this Policy in accordance with applicable law.
